To investigate the psychological processes related to the transfer of Hong Kong's sovereignty to mainland China in 1997; to assess how the upcoming changes in sovereignty affects the sense of well-being of the Hong Kong people; to investigate how the Hong Kong people appraise and cope with 1997-related events over time; to explore the changes in Hong Kong people's social identity and their relationship with the people of mainland China; to investigate Hong Kong people's confidence in the future of Hong Kong and their intended action taken in response to 1997.
