Objectives
1 The overall objective is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of continuous use of low-molecular weight heparin (LMWH) versus switching to non-vitamin K antagonists (NOACs) following the use of LMWH, for prevention of recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with cancer associated thrombosis (CAT). Specifically: a) To compare the risk of recurrent VTE and bleeding associated with continuous use of LMWH versus switching to NOACs in patients with CAT. b) To characterise the risk-benefit profile associated with different durations of anticoagulant use in patients with CAT. c) To assess the risk of mortality and healthcare utilisation associated with continuous use of LMWH versus switching to NOACs in patients with CAT.
