Objectives
Statins are the first line drugs for lowering LDL-C. However, statins fail to reduce plasma LDL-C adequately in the majority of these patients for prevention of cardiovascular events, and some proportion of patients suffer from significant adverse effects. PCSK9 antibody, an optimising drug for lowering LDL-C, is too expensive to afford by patients. In this project, we are aiming to develop a familial hypercholesterolemia human liver chimeric rabbit model, to test antibody, RNAi, gene therapy and cell therapy approaches, thus providing a platform for developing novel therapies for hypercholesterolemia, to benefit patients and society, and to promote industrial upgrading in drug discovery.
