Objectives
1 To study the synthesis of the natural product, tubingensin B by applying the dearomative (4+3) cycloaddition as a key step. 2 To explore the scope and design of substituted benzene and naphthalene (4+3) cycloaddition substrates that would generate dearomatized cycloadducts, which will be applicable for derivatization for the synthesis of non-bridged products. 3 To study and optimize the reaction conditions for intramolecular (4+3) cycloadditions of thiophenes 4 To explore the scope and mechanism of the intramolecular (4+3) cycloadditions of thiophenes 5 To study the derivatizations and reactions of thiophene (4+3) cycloadducts 6 To study the derivatizations and reactions of thiophene (4+3) cycloadducts for the synthesis of non-bridged cycloadducts
