Objectives
Antioxidant supplements have long been advocated as health boosters with anti-cancer power. However, epidemiologic studies have shown inconsistent conclusions, with some even documenting intake of antioxidant supplement would increase cancer risk. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading fatal cancer worldwide and is particularly prevalent in Hong Kong. Emerging studies have shown that HCC cells need even more cellular antioxidants than normal cells. Whether external antioxidants could enhance HCC growth remains elusive. We aim to study the roles of antioxidant supplements in different stages of HCC development.
