Professor Brian Lang is currently the Clinical Professor and Chief of Endocrine Surgery, Department of Surgery, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. He is also the director for The Surgical Skill Training Program at the University of Hong Kong.
He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from University of Sydney, Australia with Distinctions in Medicine and Surgery. He received his Master of Surgery (MS) in University of Hong Kong with thesis titled “Cancer Staging in Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma”.
He has published more than 160 articles in peer-reviewed international journals. His clinical and research interests include thyroid carcinoma, thyroid nodules hyperparathyroidism, adrenal tumors, multiple endocrine neoplasia and neuroendocrine tumors.
He has received many awards including the International Travelling Awards from the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the International Guest Scholarship from the American College of Surgeons and the James IV travelling scholarship. He is an honorary fellow of the Korean Association of Robotic Surgeons (KAROS).
He is the first person in Asia to ablate symptomatic benign thyroid nodules using an ultrasound-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) device. To date, over 450 patients have benefitted from this new technology.
