AbstractPostcolonialism in the case of Hong Kong has often been theorized as a response to the temporal and spatial disappearance of Hong Kong in the process of returning to the PRC, or as a mode of "between colonizers" (Rey Chow). What might it mean to move beyond this binary thinking and instead explore the queer mobility and borders of desire in Hong Kong cinema? This paper explores the many routes of "queer minor transnationalism" in the films by Hong Kong independent gay filmmaker Scud in order to make visible other routes of queer desire beyond the Britain-Hong Kong-China model of postcolonial theory.
