AbstractContinuity is an inherent feature of the human self. Could negative social interactions impair self-continuity? We found that ostracism disrupts self-continuity and people’s perceived meaning of their existence mediates such an effect. Further, we found that affirming core values weakens the negative effect of ostracism on self-continuity.
