AbstractPatrick Desloge (IT Coordinator) Ashley Hazel (Out of Class Learning Coordinator) Phil Smyth (Teaching and Learning Quality Committee Chair) CAES9920-Academic Communication for Business and Economics, an English in the Discipline course, has in recent years trialled evolving techniques involving both in and out-of-class initiatives to promote the development of evaluative capabilities in students and ‘close the feedback loop’ with a goal of encouraging lifelong learning. This presentation will outline the pedagogical cornerstones upon which the course was developed and trace the evolution of video ‘mini-lectures’ as well as in class teams and collaborative writing designed to promote language and genre awareness. The presenters will discuss their experiences in developing the course as well as plans for future developments which include packaging course materials for broader use.
