Abstract | Translational medicine is a rapidly growing discipline in biomedical research and aims to expedite the discovery of new diagnostic tools and treatments by using a multi-disciplinary, highly collaborative, 'bench-to-bedside' approach. We, as pediatric surgeons, should also take active participation in pursuing this within our field for sake of our patients. For this lecture, I am going to describe my personal journey in the field of nanotechnology in its possible uses in pediatric surgery and also illustrate how combining basic research and clinical practice can be and should be done by all of us. |
