Founding And Developing Tcm College Of Hongkong University

Abstract

Set in a university where Western culture dominates, TCM College of Hongkong University always aimsat retaining the Eastern culture of the subjects in the process of making them modern and international. The way toensure the healthy development of TCM research in Hongkong University lies in developing TCM education andintegrating the Western culture with the Eastern culture. TCM College of Hongkong University is a case in point.Firstly, it explores the legacy of inclusive attitude of Hongkong University to prepare for TCM higher education.Secondly, it tries to integrate Eastern culture and Western culture. Thirdly, it demands that TCM should go to theworld so as to propel the communications among various cultures. Reviewing the related sinology of HongkongUniversity, the history of Chinese culture and the various important related practices in the past decade, the paperthrows a light on the fact that it is feasible to establish TCM College in Hongkong University, thus giving referenceconcerning the establishment of TCM College in a Westernized university.

香港大學中醫藥學院誕生于一個西方文化為主流的大學里,如何堅持中醫藥東方文化和學科的特點,進而推動中醫藥國際化和現代化,一直是我們關注的課題。針對如何在香港大學發展中醫藥教育,兼容東西方文化,開創中醫藥學術的健康發展,以香港大學中醫藥學院的嘗試為例,探討了3個方面的問題:1港大百年積淀的開放包容的辦學思想和實踐,為高等中醫藥教育的開辦提供了土壤和新的思路;2中醫藥學術的建設與發展,必須堅持中醫藥特色,融入港大文化,兼收并蓄;3中醫藥學術要積極走向世界,推動多元文化交流,拓展視野。通過回顧香港大學有關國學及中國文化的歷史,梳理中醫藥學院10余年的歷程中的重要事項,整理了在此過程中面對挑戰和借機發展的種種嘗試,闡明了中醫藥學院可以在香港大學誕生的歷史人文環境,為在一個西化的大學里,如何創建中醫藥學院,發展中醫藥教育和學術研究提供了參考。
