AbstractThe objective of this study is to explore the perceptions of various community stakeholders towards prostitution. Data reported in this study are gathered from interviews with a sex worker, three residents, two social workers, two lawyers, two policemen, and a representative of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). This study investigates their attitudes towards sex workers, the legislation surrounding the industry. In addition, their general attitudes towards legalization as well as their views towards the establishment of red light districts have been explored. The findings have important implications for understanding whether Hong Kong is ready to review the existing criminal codes for prostitution. Finally, this study aims to shed light on how it is essential to overcome some concerns if the government is to legalize prostitution.
