| Abstract | The article explores the social and cultural aspect of mathematics competitions which pertain to what makes parents push their children to prepare and join such competitions, whether they are liking it or not. It discusses the good and alleged bad sides of math competitions and the 'Olympid mathematics.' The author recognizes the organizers and participants of such competitions but opposes the strategy of requiring students to work out the problems within a fixed time span. |
