AbstractThe interaction of a point source with a left-handed material (LHM) was studied using Sommerfeld integrals. Loss condition was derived for LHM so that it can be used to decide the choice of Riemann sheets for the Sommerfeld path. The superesolution was limited by the loss of the LHM slab. The results shows that while an LHM half space cannot refocus the point source field to super-resolution, a lossless LHM dielectric slab can refocus the field to super-resolution if the point source is properly located.
