AbstractSediments in the Hayle estuary in a historical mining area of Cornwall were found to contain exceptionally high concentrations of tin, arsenic, copper, lead, tungsten and zinc. In this study, the distribution of these heavy metals is correlated with pollution from past mining activity through mine waste discharge into streams, and changes which took place at the time of the development of the Upton Towans.
