AbstractThe histological and ultrastructural features of the human amniochorionic membranes are consistent with continued functional activity throughout pregnancy. Using immunofluorescent techniques, SP1 and PP5 could be demonstrated in the amniotic epithelium and chorionic trophoblast in both early and late pregnancy, while β-hCG could be demonstrated only in early pregnancy. The significance of these findings is discussed.
