AbstractA representative of a new class of sesquiterpenes, for which the title dunnianes is proposed, has been isolated from the medicinal plant Illicium dunnianum. The structure of this novel compound was determined by 2D-NMR spectroscopy. The biosynthesis of the dunniane class of sesquiterpenes, which may be related to that of the cuparanes, is discussed.
