Short Biography:

Priscilla Song is an assistant professor in the Centre for the Humanities and Medicine at the University of Hong Kong. She is a medical anthropologist working at the nexus of global health, science and technology studies, and China studies. Her research focuses on the social and ethical aspects of transnational biomedical technologies in urban China. Her first book, Biomedical Odysseys: Fetal Cell Experiments from Cyberspace to China (Princeton University Press 2017), received the 2018 Francis Hsu Book Prize from the Society for East Asian Anthropology, a section of the American Anthropological Association. She is currently writing a second book on technologies of care at the end of life in urban Chinese hospitals. She is also pursuing several related strands of inquiry including community-based eldercare and experiences of aging in the context of China's demographic transition, medical violence against Chinese health care workers, the medicalization of death in Chinese hospitals, and the history and development of emergency medicine in China. Dr. Song received her PhD and AM in Anthropology from Harvard University and her BA in Anthropology and Philosophy from Yale University. Before coming to Hong Kong, she previously taught at Washington University in St. Louis, the New School for Social Research, and Yale University.

宋柏萱 (Priscilla Song), 本科畢業於耶魯大學人類學系和哲學系,後於哈佛大學人類學系獲得碩士及博士學位。現職為香港大學人文醫學中心助理教授。主要研究興趣及方向:以醫學相關現象為切入點,從醫學人文和人類學的角度去分析當代社會文化變遷中人們生活和體驗的轉變。 2017年由普林斯頓大學出版社出版專著 Biomedical Odysseys: Fetal Cell Experiments from Cyberspace to China,獲得了美國人類學學會的2018年以著名華裔人類學家許瑯光命名的年度最佳圖書獎。目前的研究著重於在中國老齡化的背景下探討臨終照護及其相關技術、醫患關係的轉變以及重症監護的文化實踐和倫理道德觀念。
