Dr Chiu, Kin Fung 趙建豐
Dr Thomas Chiu research considers the role of psychology in education. His main interest is how people learn and how to help people learn. His recent research concerns the intersection of cognition, instruction, and technology, including: (1) multimedia learning, such as examining how external representations affect conceptual change and cognitive processing; designing computer-based environments to help students learn concepts; investigating how prior knowledge affects learning; (2) motivation in computer-based environments, such as how to provide external representations to motivate learning; and (3) teacher behavioral intention, such as examining the impact of psychological factors on teaching; examining how psychological and external factors affect teacher behavioral intention to use educational innovations. He has published a number of papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and has served as editor and reviewer of several peer-reviewed journals of repute. He also provides consultation services for a number of educational technology developers on the development of digital learning materials for users of various cognitive capacity.
