S.F. Wong has joined as Professor of Practice in Finance at the School of Economics and Finance in September 2013. He has over 35 years of working experience in banking and finance in major financial centers, including New York, London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Toronto. S.F. was the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Securities & Investment Institute (HKSI) from April 2009 to October 2012. Before joining HKSI, he worked for DBS Bank in Singapore as Managing Director for eight years, where his business responsibilities included Advisory Sales, Equity Derivatives, Investment Products and Private Banking. He also served on the Boards of DBS Asset Management and DBS Vickers Securities. From 1998 to 2000, he was a Senior Executive Director of the Market Services Group of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK), overseeing the Information Technology & Trading, the Stock Options Exchange and Information Services. He also held various senior positions in JP Morgan, Citibank, Credit Suisse Financial Products (a subsidiary of Credit Suisse First Boston) and Toronto Dominion Bank. He taught undergraduate and MBA courses in Finance at the University of Hong Kong in the mid-1980s.
In addition to teaching investment and finance courses, S.F. is interested in the talent development of the local financial service industry. He has been involved in several industry-wide human resources related initiatives. S.F. is currently a non-official member of the Human Capital Committee of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) of the Hong Kong SAR Government. He is on the Advisory Board of the Hong Kong Society of Financial Analysts (HKSFA) and a co-opted member of the Insurance Agent Registration Board (IARB) of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI). He was a member of the Advisory Committee on Human Resources Development in the Financial Services Sector (FinMan Committee) of the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau (FSTB) of the Hong Kong SAR Government from 2009 to 2012.
S F received his MBA (Finance) from the University of Chicago and BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester. He has been a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder since 1989 and obtained the Certified International Wealth Manager (CIWM) designation in 2012. He is a member of the HKSI (MHKSI) and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors (FHKIoD).
