Dr Chan, Angela Chi Kuen 陳志娟
Angela Chan holds a PhD in Linguistics from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. In her doctoral research, she examined meeting openings and closings in business settings and explored the impact of national and organizational cultures on meeting practices in authentic business organisations in Hong Kong and New Zealand. Angela's research interests include conversation analysis, interaction in workplace and social settings, and the interplay between discourse strategies and interactional contexts. She has researched in the areas of leadership discourse, identity construction, humour and politeness, discourse strategies in workplace and social settings, as well as cross-cultural comparison. She has also conducted research on language learning and teaching initiatives, particularly on improving student's academic writing ability through human feedback. Her research findings have been presented at international conferences and published in edited books and refereed journals. Before joining CAES, Angela conducted research at City University of Hong Kong.
