Biography

After obtaining a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Hong Kong, Dr. C.O. Ng practised for some years as a geotechnical engineer at Fugro (Hong Kong) Ltd., where he was extensively involved in the design, site supervision, and contract administration of a variety of geotechnical projects. Yet he could not forgo his interest in more basic research work. He switched to the area of hydraulics and fluid mechanics when he took up a lectureship in 1985 in the Civil and Structural Engineering Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic (now known as the Hong Kong Polytechnic University). Upon finishing a part-time M.Phil programme in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong, he went on pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. He returned to Hong Kong in October 1997 to become a staff member of this Department. His primary research interests include environmental fluid mechanics, mud slides, geomechanics, fluid flow and chemical transport in porous media, wave-structure interactions, and engineering applications of asymptotic methods.
