Dr Choy, Wallace Chik Ho 蔡植豪
In 1999, Wallace Choy joined National Research Council of Canada as a member of research officers to work on polarization-independent quantum-well optical amplifiers and modulators. He joined Fujitsu Compound Semiconductor, Inc at San Jose, US in 2001 to work on 40Gbit/s optical transmitter modules and real-time wavelength tunable lasers.
Wallace Choy is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Hong Kong. Dr. Choy's major research interests are in the areas of organic and inorganic optoelectronic structure and devices, and nano-material devices, particularly on the design, synthesis, and physical understanding of plasmonic nanostructures, nanoscale metals, and the multiphysics and applications of electrical and optical properties of organic and inorganic materials. Dr. Choy (H-index: 20 as on 10 Sept, 2013) has published 2 patents, about 120 internationally technical journal papers, about 100 conference papers and invited talks, as well as contributed to one book (Springer, UK) and five book chapters. He was the recipient of the Croucher Foundation Fellowship, Croucher Foundation Scholarship and Sir Edward Youde Postgraduate Fellowship. He received Outstanding Achievement Award from NRC in 2001 and overseas visiting fellowships from HKU to take sabbatical leaves for visiting George Malliaras's Group, Cornell University in 2008, Yang Yang's group, UCLA in the summer of 2009 and 2011, Karl Leo's group, IAPP, Dresden, Germany in the summer of 2010., Kido's group, Yamagata University, Japan in the summer of 2012 as well as Prof./Sir Richard Friend, Cavendish Lab, University of Cambridge, UK in the summer of 2013.
Wallace Choy has been serving as a technical consultant of HK-Ulvac (a member of stock-listed Ulvac Corp) since 2005. He has delivered invited talks and served as a committee member in international industrial and academic conferences organized by various organizations such as Plastic Electronics Foundation, IEEE and OSA.
