Dr Yip, Chi Lap 葉志立
Dr. Yip's does multidisciplinary research. Specializations includes meteorological computing, data mining, image processing, and artificial intelligence. He is the convenor of the Laboratory of Meteorological Computing and has collaborative projects with the Hong Kong Observatory on meteorological computing.
Dr. Yip is a Fellow of Hong Kong Meteorological Society, member of Association for Computing Machinery, and member of Institute of Electrical and electronic Engineers. Besides teaching in HKU CS, he also teaches a number of courses in the MSc(CS) and MSc(ECom&IComp) programmes, and teaches courses organized by HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE).
He has supervised about a hundred MSc and undergraduate final year projects, and has been involved in various projects such as the 1083 Telephone Enquiry system and various projects with the Hong Kong Observatory. The latter includes a High Performance Computing Technical Study, the research, design and development of an Automatic Tropical Cyclone Eye Fix system, and the porting of the Windshear and Turbulence Warning System (WTWS) used in Hong Kong International Airport.
Off work, he watches bird and is a founding member of the Kite Research Group of the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society. He also serves in its Conservation Committee, and Long Valley Management Advisory Board.
