Objectives
To document the progress, over one school year, of a mathematics teacher in a secondary school in Hong Kong, as he attempts to enhance mathematics learning through the introduction of a discussion-based approach. The results of the study will give essential insights into the kinds of difficulties experienced by a teacher trying to understand and implement this approach to teaching mathematics in Hong Kong, as well as some understanding of the extent to which it is successful and situations for which it is an appropriate approach to use. Data collected from the project will be used as a basis for future classroom action research, as well as contribute to ongoing planning of learning experiences that will help other teachers to implement similar approaches in their own classrooms.
