Objectives
The functional relationship between two major [alpha]-adrenoceptor subtypes and the validity of further subclassification of [alpha]1-subtypes in vascular smooth muscle; characterization of prejunctional (in paravascular nerve and varicosities) vs postjunctional receptors (in the vascular smooth muscle cells of arteries and veins); membrane transduction and calcium signalling processes in endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells using novel pharmacological tools that interfers with intracellular calcium sequestration; application to endotoxin-induced vascular changes.
