To study immune parameters in tuberculosis patients; to identify humoral and cellular suppressor influences; to compare the immune responsiveness of peripheral blood cells and pleural effusion cells in tuberculosis patients; to ascertain whether any deficiency in production or activity of cytokines is localized to the site of infection; and to establish Epstein-Barr virus-transformed B cell lines from members of multiple case families for analysis with probes for recently-discovered genes conferring resistance or susceptibility to mycobacterial infections.
