Rural enterprise is the mechanism of the bottom-up urbanization strategy adopted by China. This study examines the general process of rural urbanization, and economic integration of rural and urban sectors. Models of rural enterprise are reviewed to identify the elements that determine the form of enterprise, the stage of development, and the success and problems of rural enterprise development.
