Objectives
To develop a Trichinella antigen to discriminate against homologous antibodies produced by pigs infected with a polyparasitic population endemic in Hong Kong and China; to develop screening procedure for trichinosis applicable to local and Chinese abattoirs; to provide data on prevalence of the disease in pigs raised locally as well as those imported into Hong Kong from different regions of China; to identify the high risk provinces of China as sources of infected pigs imported into Hong Kong; to evaluate the status of Trichinella spiralis infection in pigs in Hong Kong and China as health hazards to the communities.
