Objectives
1. To develop and optimize the fabrication of nano-structures (in particular with nano-spikes and nano-pillars) on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) surfaces down to the size of 1cm by 1 cm via nanofabrication and thermocuring replication methods for testing with dental bacteria. The expected timeframe to achieve this is 6 months. 2. To develop nano-structures (in particular with nano-spikes and nano-pillars) on titanium surfaces down to the size of 1cm by 1 cm via various nanofabrication methods such as lithography, wet etching and/or electrochemistry. The expected timeframe to achieve this is 12 months. 3. To optimize the antibacterial effect of nano-structures on titanium surface achieved from (2), and tested with dental bacteria. The expected timeframe to achieve this is 18 months. 4. To file a patent on the fabrication method of nanostructures and its antibacterial effect. The expected timeframe to achieve this is 18 months. 5. To submit research publications about the fabrication of the nanostructured antibacterial surfaces and its effect. The expected timeframe to achieve this is 18 months
