Objectives
1 Develop a cross-cultural perspective on the theory of cumulative advantage in higher education by analyzing and comparing empirical evidence on the challenges of handling legacy-innovation tensions in the academic practices affected by a radical move from closed to open systems of knowledge development 2 Create an analytical matrix for studies of interdependencies between academic legacies, innovations and effects in the higher education contexts affected by radical political and socio-economic transformations; explore when and how these interdependencies allow to increase competitiveness and reputational positioning of national higher education systems and universities, without compromising openness, academic freedom, social justice, rule of law and human dignity 3 Elaborate methodological instruments on examining the causes and effects of success, failure, hybridity and reversals in creating cumulative advantages at the time of dramatic transformations of academic practices on the way from closed to open knowledge development systems
