2 To reincorporate missionaries and government officials in the study of Korean Christianity in a manner that goes beyond the language of cultural imperialism or simple domination. 3 To produce one monograph and two articles that will elucidate how negotiating "citizenship ambiguity" both represented a major challenge for missionaries, converts, and officials to overcome and provided the means for each to advance competing visions 4 To provide a case study for scholars to consider broadly how resolving the problem of citizenship ambiguity represents an aspect of modernity for both religious adherents and government officials across the globe.
