Objectives
1. To support one PhD student (Miss Liu Heng) to visit partner institutions (CUSA), in order to enhance her technical knowledge and overseas experience. 2. To built a very strong and productive collaboration between HKU and CUSA in the area of renewable grid research. The research project includes the following elements: i). HKU team will investigate and develop an adaptive AC distribution network and associated control methodologies to mitigate the renewable energy and loads fluctuations. Ii). CUSA team will investigate and develop a new generation of grid-connected power inverters/converters with virtual inertia and associated control methodologies. Iii). To integrate the outcomes of the CUSA and HKU teams. We will study the effectiveness of the enhancement in the power system transient stability in particular the angle instability phenomena due to high penetration of renewable energy.
