Objectives
1. To determine the effect of food waste disposer (FWD) on sewage characteristics; 2. To conduct lab-scale experiments and mathematical modelling to determine the potential impacts of FWD on sewers in terms of clogging, corrosion, sewage characterization, and hydrogen sulfide formation; 3. To carry out mathematical model-based evaluation on the potential impacts on sewage treatment; 4. To conduct laboratory and modelling studies to investigate the effect of FWD on anaerobic sludge digestion and establish optimum operation conditions for co-digestion of food waste solids separated by micro-sieve and sewage sludge; and 5. To develop an integrated food waste and sewage co-treatment system, evaluate its engineering feasibility, and conduct an economic analysis.
