Objectives
1) The ripple effect of this research can be described as forming four concentric circles: The first and smallest ""ripple"" is to clarify the jindou form itself, by aligning the zhuan lyrics surviving in a Zhizheng (1340) edition of the Shilinguangji with the musical notation of the same tune preserved in a Zhishun era (1330-33) edition. 2) The second, wider objective is to apply these principles to the seventeen Jiang Kui ci for which there is extant musical notation. 3) Third and still more significant is an assessment of the extent to which the jindou form can be found in the hundred or so Jiang Kui lyric songs for which no musical notation survives. 4) The final, fourth, and largest ""ripple"" is a reasoned and logical discussion of the presumed presence of the jindou form in the 20,000-strong corpus of Song ci as a whole.
