Objectives
1 Establishing human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) as the cell model to evaluate the methylglyoxal-scavenging capacity of some selected phenolics and phenolic-enriched extracts; 2 Investigating the protective effects of some selected phenolics/extracts on the direct formation of AGEs, induced oxidative stress, and endothelial dysfunction in HUVECs; 3 Investigating the inhibitory effect of selected phenolics on AGEs-induced endothelial cell apoptosis and inflammation and the underlying mechanisms; 4 Investigate the protective effects of these selected phenolics/extracts against AGEs formation, oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction in arteries from db/db mice and their direct impact on glucose homeostasis.
